My groups topic is related to the portrayal of African-Americans in situation comedies. Back in the 90's, there were several situation comedies where the cast was mostly African-American people, such as The Cosby Show, Family Matters, and Different Strokes. What we want to see in these situation comedies are the types of stereotypes that African-Americans are portrayed as, and if there are re-occuring character patterns in each different show.
Click this link to see a large list of different situation comedies with African-American actors/actresses.
I have a question about the project. Would the best way to see stereotypes and portrayals of African-Americans be to watch different types of shows and evaluate them or just read research on these specific topics and gather information from there?
